AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: The Taliban insurgents have blocked roads of three districts in southern Paktika province, leading main towns which have created unrest among the citizens, having no access to food items, other fundamental facilities and they are also at the risk of famine, local officials said.
The residents of Terwa, Wormami and Waza Khwa districts said they are facing insecurity, and also struggling with shortages of food items and lack of healthcare access.
Maulvi Abdul Hai, a local tribal elder, told Pajhwok Afghan News “the main roads to the three districts had been cut off with Sharana, the provincial capital, in Gawashti area by the Taliban.” He added, the residents including women and youth were contributing to the security of the district.
The Head of Local Security Force, Abdul Shakor, said that he had lost 35 members of his family while performing his noble duty of maintaining security of the district.
Some days back, he said, the Taliban executed his cousin in the Gawashti area and distributed a video of the murder among local people.
Afsar Khan Sulimankhel, a member of the provincial council, said “the residents of the three districts had rendered many sacrifices, but currently they are being siege by the Taliban militants and living like prisoners.”
He called upon the government to immediately resolve the security issue; otherwise the people would face famine.
Paktika Governor Elyas Wahdat said, the provincial administration might not be in position to reopen the roads in near future due to a lack of required resources.
He said the viewing the security situation in the province is needed for more deployment of security forces with proper resources and mechanism to reopen the roads.
