AT-KABUL: Blasts in different parts of Jalalabad City, capital of eastern Nangarhar province, leave at least five dead and 27 wounded on Friday.
At least five people have been killed, including two security personnel and a child, in a series of blasts in Jalalabad, police officials have said.
According to the provincial police, the head of Nangarhar police headquarters’ detention center was also killed in the blast.
Confirming the attack on the high-ranking police official, the spokesman to the provincial governor Attaullah Khogyani said the terror attacks were carried out in second and fourth administrative areas of Jalalabad.
The spokesman said that a bomb blast targeted the provincial police headquarters’ detention center chief who succumbed to injuries. A child member of the detention center chief’s family was also killed in the explosion. In another blast three policemen were wounded in the capital city of eastern Nangarhar province.
However, the local officials have not provided details about health condition of the injured and third blast.
No group claimed responsibility for the attacks till this report was filed.
Terror attacks have increased in the volatile province since establishment of training and command centers in Nangarhar province. Afghan security forces, backed by the US air power, have launched a series of military operations against the most notorious terrorist group. The operations are aimed to suppress the terrorist organization in the province.
In late-October, militants loyal to Daesh, aka the Islamic State, have carried out complex attacks on Pachir Aw Agam district of the eastern province.
Daesh fighters have killed civilians and torched houses, the residents of the district said.
The attack came after the first vice-president General Abdul Rashid Dostum said, “Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (Daesh) planned to deploy at least 7,000 fighters to Afghanistan.”
He said that the IS was attempting to deploy foreign militants mainly citizens of Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Chechnya in the northern areas, where Dostum is fighting against terrorists.
Two months ago, Daesh has released photos that purport to show weapons and equipment that belonged to US soldiers and captured by the group in Nangarhar.
The Daesh insurgents have purportedly released photos of documents and gear of US soldiers, including the identity card of Ryan Jay Larson.
The photos were released on ISIS terrorist channels on August 6 with the description: “Exclusive: Amaq Agency received photos in which American weapons and military equipment can be seen that have been captured by fighters of the Islamic State in Nangarhar.”
One of these pictures shows the identity of a US soldier named Ryan Jay Larson, as well as bags, ammunition vests, a rocket, a US flag and several hand grenades.
“No weapons captured at all,” the US military spokesman Commander Ron Flesvig said at the time.
“We are aware of erroneous reports that US Army SPC Ryan Jay Larson was captured by ISIS in Afghanistan. These reports are false. He has been accounted for and remains in a duty status within his unit.”
“SPC Larson was attached to a unit conducting a partnered (operation) with Afghan Forces. The soldier’s I.D. and some of the equipment were left behind after the (operation). The loss of personal identification is unfortunate,” US military spokesman Commander Ron Flesvig said in an emailed statement. The website that published the photos speculated that the equipment and weapons were left behind during that engagement.
