AT-KABUL: A prominent Pakistani senator Afrasiab Khattak said on Tuesday that the Pakistani government was behind the terrorist rampage and the fighting in Ghazni city, describing Islamabad’s Afghan policy as ‘unmitigated disaster’.
“Pakistani government needs to explain reports about the dead bodies of Pakistanis coming in from the war in Ghazni and Pakistani fighters getting arrested,” he said in a tweet on Tuesday.
“Is it the repetition of the Jalalabad fiasco in 1989? Pak Afghan Policy is an unmitigated disaster,” he said, calling on Islamabad to change its policy towards Afghanistan.
The fight for Ghazni began on Friday morning after the Taliban staged a ruthless attack on the city the night before, using civilian homes and market places as their shelter against Afghan armed forces. Hundreds of assailants have been killed in a joint counteroffensive of Afghan and U.S. forces.
According to security officials, the Afghan security and defense forces have advanced against enemy positions and no sign of Taliban activity was seen. The ministry of defense has however said that the battle for control of Ghazni will come to an end soon as armed forces are steadily moving forwards in cracking down the enemy.
