Kabul: Save the Children Organization has warned about the situation of children in the country by publishing a report and stated that children bear the burden of the deteriorating situation in Afghanistan.
This organization published a report today saying that Afghanistan is on the brink of a mental health disaster, because the economic crisis and decades of conflict have had a dangerous effect on children’s mental health.
This organization has warned that only one in four children and adults receive the treatment they urgently need, many of them may not recover and face long-term consequences.
According to this institution, many children go to bed hungry at night and drop out of school for work to support their families.
This organization added that it is estimated that about 4 million 460 thousand children and adults in Afghanistan need mental health and psychosocial support, but according to new data, around 1 million people have been able to access services and treatment.
A recent Save the Children report also found that one in four girls showed signs of depression or anxiety, and two-thirds of children said they felt negative emotions, including feeling more worried, sadder and more angry.
Parents have told Save the Children that they have seen worrying changes in their children’s behavior, including uncontrollable crying, nightmares, aggression and self-harm, due to the violence and current financial pressures on their families.
This child Protection Organization has said that most children and adults who need psychological and social support services cannot access them due to lack of these services in their communities.
Save the Children report added that although the conflict in Afghanistan has decreased over the past year, children continue to struggle with the violence they have witnessed in the past – including the loss of loved ones and still vulnerable to deadly attacks that have destroyed educational facilities.
