KABUL: China called for an investigation of civilians casualties inflicted by a U.S. and alliance countries’ forces in Afghanistan.
Chinese Ambassador to the United Nations, Jiang Duan made the remark on Tuesday, according Xinhua news agency. The call to probe civilians’ killing in Afghanistan was announced in a joint statement on the second day of the 48th session of the UN Human Rights Council.
The statement said that the U.S. led war cause heavy casualties and mass displacement of people.
“The drastic change in Afghanistan shows once again that military interventions and power politics get no support. Imposing American-style democracy on others will only lead to turmoil and is doomed to failure,” Duan was quoted in the statement.
The statement urged the Human Rights Council and High Commissioner for Human Rights to preserve addressing the situation of the human rights in Afghanistan.
The U.S. led war begun in 2001 following the 9/11 attack carried out by the al-Qaeda network. According to some findings, over 70,000 Afghan civilians were killed and a much larger number of people received injuries. The U.S. ended its presence after 20-years on August 31th of 2021.
