By Akhtar M.Nikzad-KABUL: The Chinese Vice President, Li Yuanchao, said that his country is ready to support an Afgan-owned and Afghan-led peace process. He said that China wants Afghanistan to be a peaceful and stable country.
Speaking at the 60th anniversary of the China-Afghanistan Friendship in Kabul, he said China wanted peace in Afghanistan, thus it will support Afghan forces in fight against terrorism.
Terming ties between the two countries as time-tested, Yuanchao said that a peaceful Afghanistan is in the interest of China and the entire region. “China will help Afghanistan to improve its ties with neighboring countries,” he added.
“Kabul and Beijing want to continue their cooperation under the framework of Istanbul process and Shanghai Cooperation Organization,” he said.
President Ashraf Ghani appreciated China’s cooperation to Afghanistan in the field of security and said relations between the two countries are based on mutual interest and fight against common threats.
He said that Afghanistan wants China to invest in infrastructural projects, particularly extraction of mines, construction of irrigation systems, hydropower dams and roads. “We want Wakhan corridor to be used for transit purposes between the two countries,” he added.
He said that China was committed to stand beside Afghans. “In its recent move, the country donated $1 million to the people affected by recent earthquake,” Ghani said.
