KABUL – China has recently established a new cargo route to Afghanistan, enhancing trade connections between the two nations. The inaugural journey commenced on July 5th, with a freight train departing from Lanzhou city in northwest China’s Gansu province.
The train, carrying 39 containers filled with a variety of goods valued at $1.5 million, including auto parts, furniture, office supplies, and mechanical equipment, is set to reach its destination in Hairatan, Afghanistan.
The logistics process involves the train departing from the Dongchuan logistics center in Lanzhou and heading towards Kashgar, located in China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Upon arrival in Kashgar, the goods will be transferred to trucks for transportation to Kyrgyzstan. From there, the goods will once again be shipped by railway, eventually reaching their final destination in Hairatan, Afghanistan.
This newly established cargo route holds significant potential to strengthen economic and trade cooperation between China, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, and other countries along the Belt and Road Initiative. The operation of this transportation service by various companies involved signals the commitment to further fostering trade relations in the region.
Lanzhou, being a crucial transportation hub in northwest China, has already established international train services that connect with over 30 cities in more than 20 countries. This expansion of trade routes underscores China’s ongoing efforts to enhance connectivity and promote economic development through international trade and cooperation.
