KABUL: Former President Hamid Karzai on Tuesday met with Chinese ambassador Wang Yu to Kabul to discuss Afghanistan’s ongoing peace process and prospects of its success.
They discussed developments in the peace process and expressed hope that the intra-Afghan negotiations would start at the earliest to advance peace and progress in Afghanistan, according to a statement issued by Karzai’s office.
Ambassador Yu expressed his country’s commitment and support towards the peace process in Afghanistan.
Ambassador Yu also briefed the former President on the situation in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and China’s measures to safeguard the sovereignty and security of the country and to uphold and improve the “one country, two systems” principle.
Former President Karzai expressed support for the One China policy and stated that China’s right to protect its national security must be respected.
They concurred that all countries should adhere to international law and the basic principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries
