KABUL: At least 20 security force members were released from a Taliban prison during a raid conducted by the Afghan security forces in southern Nimroz province.
The Ministry of Defense said that Afghan army conducted an operation over Taliban prison in Khash Rod district of Nimroz province, in which 20 security force members, including 17 army personnel and three police officers were set free.
Seven Taliban militants, including a commander of the group identified as Mawlawi Bashir, were killed during the raid.
The prisoners were extensively tortured by the Taliban, the ministry said in a statement.
Moreover, 100-meter tunnel used by the Taliban militants destroyed in Balkh province. Ministry of defense said that Afghan National Army members destroyed the tunnel in the village of Sharsharak in Balkh and four Taliban insurgents were arrested during the raid.
