KABUL: Armed conflicts are going on now between government forces and Taliban fighters in 104 out of 387 districts of the country, according to security officials.
Ahmad Zia Seraj, director of the National Directorate of Security (NDS), told the senators that Taliban’s attacks have increased sever per cent with the insurgents carrying out 3,500 attacks since the beginning of the year.
Meanwhile, acting interior minister Hayatullah Hayat believes that the current war is propaganda by the regional countries, saying that police are standing by army side to prevent fall of parts of the country.
Senior security officials were called by senators to answer their concerns over current insecurity, but nobody from ministry of defense attended the senate general session apparently due to engagements in the war fronts.
Senators raised questions over the fall of some districts to Taliban in the past few days.
“Why don’t you have a proper program against the enemy?” asked senator Moallem Lala.
“War intensifies in the spring and we all know this and spring is the season of war. Our investigations show that seven per cent increase has come in their attacks,” Hayat addressed senators.
He accused the regional intelligence of being the “main enemies of us”, saying that they try to make Afghanistan fall to Taliban by propagandas.
“There is no change in Pakistan’s policy. So what is our responsibility? We need to resolve our problems at home. If we are powerful, Pakistan can’t interfere our affairs,” Seraj said.
Five districts have fallen to Taliban since the US began withdrawal on May 1.
