By Akhtar M. Nikzad-KABUL: Kabul Municipality (KM) on Tuesday kicked off construction work over two-way road connecting Karte Ariana and Karte Sakhi areas of the capital city.
President’s special envoy on reforms and good governance Ahmad Zia Massoud inaugurated the construction work in the presence of local residents and government officials.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the deputy mayor Abdul Ahad Wahid said that once the project completed it would decrease traffic congestion.
He said that there are two roads leading to Kabul University and Parliament, however, it takes an hour to reach there because of excessive traffic jam and congestion.
The deputy mayor said that after construction of the road most of the traffic would be diverted to it that would reduce the travel time and traffic jam.
The road is 3.6 kilometer long and 15 meters wide. The project will cost around $2.8 million, provided by the Kabul Municipality (KM) from its development budget. The project would be completed within next 18 months.
Wahid said that earlier local people created challenges for the municipality when it was designing and implementing construction projects. He urged the locals to cooperate with the KM.
Ahmad Zia Massoud said that construction work over Silo Road in the fifth police jurisdiction of the city would begin next week.
Regarding the Kabul ring road, he said that feasibility study of the road has already been completed. He added that Ministry of Public Works would begin the construction work on the ring road in near future. “The ring road will be constructed for heavy vehicles that would pass from Kabul to different provinces,” he said.
Massoud further said that the national unity government is committed to retake the grabbed lands from influential people in Kabul and other provinces.
