KABUL: Provincial Council Director of northwestern Jawzjan province surrendered to the Taliban alongside his 20-fighters, sources said.
A member of the provincial council, Mavllawi Abdulhai Hayat confirmed the surrender of Babur Ishchi to the Taliban. “The contacts, I have made with some friends in the national directorate of security of Jawzjan, they said that head of the provincial council on Saturday evening- after the Taliban entered the center of the district- surrendered himself,” he added.
A first hand witness of the scene, Qamaruddin has been quoted by Pajhwok as saying that the insurgents took Ischi to capital from the Khwaja Dokoah district.
“I and two- three other individuals, who were with provincial council director- unarmed, remained in Khwaja Dokoh district,” he added.
Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid said that Baber Ischi was surrender alongside 20 fighters with their arms.
This comes as the Taliban have recently made rapid advances nationwide in the wake of the U.S. and NATO forces withdrawal after 20-year of presence that failed to put an end to the ragging war in Afghanistan. The insurgents overrun the capital of Zaranj, capital of Nimruz and Shabarghan, capital of Jawzjan provinces. According to some reports, the militants also took control of capitals of Kunduz, Takhar and Sar-e-Pul.
