KABUL: The Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ACCI) and the Central Statistics Organization (CSO) have planned to conduct a nationwide survey to collect precise information about industries and factories as well as their products.
The results of the survey would enable the government to adopt an efficient policy for economic improvement in the country, said Atiqullah Nasrat, the ACCI chief.
He told a press conference on Monday that there is no exact data about industries, factories and production capacity of active plants in the country. “This has disabled the government to organize workable plans for development of firms as well as local products,” he added.
He mentioned that the survey would begin in March that would cover different economic fileds includes data about production capacity of local firms, exports and imports, agriculture, the output of mining industry, the electricity generation capacity, number of investors in Afghanistan, the number of telecommunication companies and their capacity, and complete data about construction companies all over the country.
He said the CSO would collect data from all firms in collaboration with the ACCI, and later it would announce the result of the survey.
Criticizing the lack of coordination among government offices and private organizations, the ACCI deputy chief, Khan Jan Alokozai, said the ACCI as well as the CSO have always been provided inaccurate information about factories, industries and their production capacity.
Terming the survey as important, he said that it would reveal the net profit, gross domestic product (GDP) growth and economic development in the country, and this would help the government to adopt its plan as per the data.
He added that customs departments were not providing correct information about their incomes as well as imports and exports due to different reasons. “The survey will provide information about growth and problems faced by industries and factories in the country through which the government will draft plans for overcoming the problems in a better way,” he said.
The CSO general director, Shir Mohammad Jamizada, criticized a number of private industries and commercial organizations for not providing accurate information about their questions, and said they would conduct the survey in two phases which include recognizing industries and factories, and then collecting information about their activities and their human resources.
He mentioned that the outcomes of the survey would be presented through the annual publication of the CSO. (By Akhtar M.Nikzad)
