KABUL: As Afghanistan is still tackling with the worst types of social taboos that placed women into caves and out of freedom and rights, the country’s High Court announced that it has covered at least 396 cases of violence against women during last one year.
The majority of these cases have been registered in Kabul, Herat, Kandahar, Balkh, Daikundi, Kundoz, Faryab, Badakhshan, Jawzjan, Bamiyan, Baghlan and Badghis provinces, the court said in a statement on Tuesday.
It said the cases containing of family dispute, sexual harassments and several kind of cultural taboos against women.
The statement said that around 1,508 convicted have been prosecuted on charge of committing violence against women; while 309 other convicted have been prosecuted on charge of sexual harassment against women by the high court.
The convicted have been sentenced at different categories of punishment which includes executions, permanent and short term prison, and even some of them have been financially penalized.
The High Court is working on conviction of several other cases as well, the statement read.
During several era of Afghanistan history, women have been treated with less freedom, as the country has been embracing a state of slightly strong patriotic society, where men are considered prior to women.
