KABUL: The Ministry of Public Health has announced 140 new cases of Covid-19 with an additional fatality of nine people. The cases were recorded out of 1,699 suspicious samples during the past 24 hours, the ministry said in a statement. During this period, 279 people were recovered, bringing the total recoveries to 41,610.

According to the ministry, the new cases were registered in Kabul, Herat, Kandahar, Balkh, Nangarhar, Takhar, Paktia, Daikundi, Ghazni, Wardak, Helmand, Laghman, Kapisa, Kunar, Farah, Uruzgan and Faryab provinces.

The total tally of the cases surpasses 52,147 and the death rises to over 2,179.

Health officials had earlier warned people that the virus still exists in the society. The officials recommended the people to wear masks, take precautionary measures and behold social distance.
