By Farhad Naibkhel-KABUL: More than 250 Islamic State fighters and their commander laid down on Tuesday night their arms and surrendered to Afghan forces in northern Jawzjan province, after a month of military suppressions, according to officials.
IS leader in Jawzjan Mawlawi Habiburrahman, his deputy Nematullah along with 250 fighters, out of whom 330 women, surrendered their weapons, military equipment and vehicle to the army forces in Darzab district of Jawzjan province, Spokesman for Shaheen Army Corps, Hanif Rezaee, told Afghanistan Times.
He said that since one month the army forces were working over the surrender of Daesh fighters in the province, where finally lead to good conclusion and a large number of Daesh surrendered to Afghan forces.
Additionally over 100 Daesh fighters also are in contact with security forces and want to surrender, he added.
He said that the most important thing is surrender of leadership of Daesh for Jawzjan, which show end of Daesh subversive activity in the province.
He said that still the surrender Daesh fighters are with army forces in Darzab district.
This is the first time that a large number of Daesh fighters along with leadership handover arms to and surrender to Afghan forces.
Pointing to Daesh and Taliban fights, he said that in conflict between both groups in the past three weeks 300 fighters were killed and 500 others wounded from both side.
Numbers of commanders of both sides were also among killed and wounded fighters, he noted.
Taliban Spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid in a statement confirmed fighting between Taliban and Daesh since few days, saying that 153 Daesh were killed, over 100 wounded and 134 others arrested by Taliban.
He said that also 17 Taliban fighters were killed and 13 others wounded during clashes.
He said that heavy casualties have been incurred to Daesh during fighting and the group roughly marred in Jawzjan.
He said that Daesh scourge completely eradicated in Northern Province Jawzjan as 153 killed, over 100 wounded and 134 detained.
Also Daesh leaders Habib Rahman, Mufti Naimat along with 154 gunmen take refuge with Afghan governmental forces, he added.
Blaming U.S. air force for occasionally supporting Daesh, he said that due to this issue, the Taliban fighters have conducted raids and assault against Daesh very carefully in the province.
