AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: A fierce clash between the Islamic State (IS), which is also known as Daesh terrorist group and the Taliban was occurred in the Qush Tepa district of northern Jawzjan province, in which five Taliban insurgents were killed, an official said on Sunday.
The clash between the two rival militant groups occurred on Saturday evening and lasted half-an-hour, the district administrative head, Aminullah, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said five Taliban insurgents were killed and two Daesh rebels sustained injuries in the clash.
The remaining Taliban militants retreated to Shorqoduq and Turkmen Qoduq villages, despite receiving reinforcements from Faryab and Sar-i-Pul provinces, the district chief said.
Moreover, Najmuddin, a resident of nearby Chiqma Choqur village, said all shops were shut down after the two sides were seen preparing for a battle.
“They exchanged heavy weapons fire and gunshots targeting each other’s positions,” said the resident, who added that an old man and a child were injured in the clash.
“Some houses caught fire after being hit by mortars fired from both the sides,” Najumuddin said. “As compared to last night, the situation is good today.”
On the other hand, Zabihullah Mujahid, a Taliban’s spokesperson, said he could not contact with their fighters in the area because there was no network.
According to sources, the violent clash between the two sides was erupted two days ago which is still in progress. Since yesterday, at least 15 Taliban militants were reportedly killed and their weapons and ammunition captured by the Daesh fighters.
