AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: The Taliban and Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) announced Jihad against each other in Helmand province, said an official on Monday.
Nabi Jan Mulakhel, Helmand police chief, told reporters that he has letters that prove that the two terrorist groups have announced Jihad against each other.
“In one of the letters the ISIS, also known as Daesh, instructs its commander in Helmand to fight against the Taliban, while the other letter urge the Taliban fighters to suppress the ISIS’ activities in Helmand,” Mulakhel said.
Neither the Taliban nor ISIS has commented about the allegations of Mulakhel so far.
This came at a time that that verbal dispute between the two groups recently made headlines, as the ISIS leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, in a letter urged al-Qaeda leader to renounce allegiance to the Taliban leader, Mullah Omar, calling him ignorant, illiterate warlord and unworthy of spiritual respect. The Taliban in response said that they don’t recognize Baghdadi’s caliphate. They said that as long as Mullah Omar is alive, no one can take his position.
It is worth mentioning that some security officials recently said that the ISIS is an old enemy of Afghanistan with a new façade.
