AT-KABUL: Second Vice President Sarwar Danish has broken silence over exile of Gen. Abdul Rashid Dostum and met with him in Ankara in the sidelines of the oath-taking ceremony for President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
Both the vice presidents met in a cordial environment. Both sides conferred on hot-button issues including the status quo in Afghanistan, national unity and reconciliation, security and promoting intra-ethnic tribe cohesion.
Danish insisted that Gen. Dostum’s return to Afghanistan was vital for peace, reconciliation, development and national unity, said a statement from the second vice president’s office on Tuesday.
Dostum welcomed the second vice president at his office and said: “The resolution of problems and stress in national unity in this critical situation is necessary at the moment.”
Danish stressed that the presence of Dostum in Afghanistan is important during upcoming parliamentary and district council elections.
In recent weeks, hundreds of Dostum’s supporters protested the arrest of Nizamuddin Qaisari, who led a group of illegal gunmen and killed several innocent people.
