KABUL: Director of government’s media and information center was assassinated by the Taliban terrorists in Kabul – in the latest in a string of attacks against senior Afghan officials in the wake of increased air strikes by Afghan forces.
Minapal, a former presidential spokesman and head of the government’s media center, was killed in Kabul on Friday.
Interior Ministry spokesman Mirwais Stanekzai said that Dawa Khan Minapal had been killed by unknown men at 1:30 pm on Darul Aman Street in the 7th District.
He added that the attackers had fled but that police had launched an investigation.
Eyewitnesses say Minapal was on his way to the Osman Ghani Mosque for Friday prayers when he was killed by a bullet fired by unknown people.
Unconfirmed reports indicate that two other people were injured in the incident, but their identities are still unknown.
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid has claimed responsibility for killing Minapal.
Dawa Khan Minapal was a resident of Zabul province, and has worked for Radio Azadi for several years.
Minapal previously served as deputy spokesman and acting spokesman for the president, and has been head of the government’s media center for several months.

Moreover, U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Ross Wilson condemned the assassination, saying “We are saddened & disgusted by the Taliban’s targeted killing of Dawa Khan Minapal, a friend and colleague, whose career was focused on providing truthful information to all Afghans about Afghanistan. These murders are an affront to Afghans’ human rights and freedom of speech,” he tweeted.
Wahid Omar also condemned the killing of Minapal and said, “My brother, friend and Afghan hero, Mina Pal Saib, was martyred in a cowardly attack by the mercenaries of Fitna. May the soul of the lover be happy. This country has millions of such dedicated youth and their voices will be silenced today. The voice will be even louder,” he said in a tweet.
