KABUL: Condemnations have been pour in against a deadly suicide and armed assault on political office of Amrullah Saleh on Sunday that killed at least 20 people and injured 50 others. The terrorist act against former spy chief and current running mate of President Ashraf Ghani in upcoming presidential elections, have also overshadowed election campaigns as no electoral team jumped into campaigning race on Monday.
Mostly civilians were the victim after attackers stormed Afghanistan Green Trend(AGT)—a political office of Amruallah Saleh. No group, including the Taliban have claimed responsibility of the attack so far.
The Afghan masses showed their desire to partake in election as hundreds of them participated in President Ghani and Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah’s campaigns that was held separately.
But the attack against Saleh’s office dashed these desires to the ground, and lost trust over security organizations for maintaining their security during election rallies.
The attack began around 4:40 pm Sunday local time, when a huge blast struck near the Green Trend office. It was an attempt, which so far no one claimed, to target Saleh. An official said he escape without serious injuries. The attack lasted for six hours and ended with all attacker killed, the Interior Ministry told Afghanistan Times. Security forces exercised extreme caution to bring the armed assaults to their knee without any casualties on civilians who caught between evil and angel. According to interior ministry, 150 trapped people have been evacuated to safest place. Unfortunately, four police officers were among 20 civilians killed in the line of duty.
While condemning it strongest term, ministry of interior said targeting civilians and residential areas “is a war crime.” Despite no official claim, the ministry said as usual Taliban and Daesh extremist groups are behind such attacks.
President Ghani, Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah, National Security Advisor, Hamdullah Mohib, and other officials visited Saleh’s house and expressed their sympathies with him. All officials, including foreign diplomats strongly condemned the attack.
