KABUL – Several individuals linked to the extortion activities conducted on behalf of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) have disclosed shocking details about their operations.
These suspects came into custody following a tip-off, shedding light on the modus operandi employed in the collection of extortion funds.
For several years, these detained individuals have been aiding the TTP by acting as intermediaries in the collection of extorted money. Moreover, they have reportedly verified the presence of TTP commanders within the borders of Afghanistan.
One of the detained suspects made a startling revelation, claiming that Abdul Raziq, a prominent TTP commander stationed in Afghanistan, would communicate with them through WhatsApp.
The suspect disclosed that the TTP commander would demand photographs and videos of residential and commercial properties, subsequently using this information to make extortion demands from Afghanistan. In instances of non-compliance, the TTP commander would resort to threats of violence, including abduction and harm.
Pakistani law enforcement agencies are working to dismantle these extortionist networks. This revelation underscores the complexity and international dimension of the TTP’s criminal activities, particularly its linkages to Afghanistan.
