AT-KABUL: A dozen Taliban insurgents, including a key commander, were killed in a spate operation carried out by the Afghan security forces in central Logar province, an official said on Friday.

Logar police spokesman Shahpur Ahmadzai told Pajhwok Afghan News that security forces were heading towards Pul-i-Alam, the provincial capital, from Charkh district yesterday when they were ambushed by insurgents.

In the ensuing clash, Taliban’s deputy chief for the southern zone Abdul Nafi and a former district chief Mualvi Dost Mohammad were killed. He said the security forces escaped unhurt in the ambush.

Separately, 10 insurgents were killed during a ground and air operation in the Mohammad Agha district, Ahmadzai said, adding several others rebels were wounded in the still ongoing operations. He said the slain insurgents were residents of Zarghon Shahr village.
