KABUL: While Afghanistan has been struggling with plenty of sever challenges, now the air pollution has recently been recognized as deadly as war, threatening the life of thousands of the Afghans in Kabul, the capital city. The public health authorities on Monday said that at least 17 people have died due to sever air pollution in Kabul within one week.
More than 8,000 patients came to medical treatment after being affected by deadly air pollution, according to the deputy minister of public health, Fida Mohammad Paikan. Afghanistan’s capital city, Kabul has been recognized as world’s most polluted city.
Air pollution often increases during winter season as most of the Kabul residents use coal, plastic and other harmful materials to heat their homes.
To quell the threat, related officials have launched crackdowns on industrial factories and business areas that cause air pollution in the city.
The Interior Ministry has warned the private residential towns and factories to avoid using materials which are harmful for the environment; otherwise, they would face serious action.
A campaign was launched by health ministry, National Environmental Protection Agency and municipality on Monday to encourage the people to use “mask” in a bit to be protected from the air pollution. The campaign would be lasted for two weeks, according to the officials.
