KABUL: Afghanistan exports of dried fruits saw an unprecedented rise in 2021 with over $400 million worth of exports last year, Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industries said on Thursday.
ACCI Director, Mohammad Younus Momand, said that over 140 tons of dried fruit were exported in 2021. “We have had over $400 million exports of dried fruits,” he said.
But some businessmen continue to berate their transportation woes.
“Unfortunately, challenges exist. There is no proper system of transportation between Afghanistan and China, and therefore Afghan dried fruit is re-sold by other countries, and smuggled to other countries,” said Azmuddin Khinjani, an Afghan trader.
The statistics of the ACCI indicate that the total value of Afghan exports has exceeded $1 billion.
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry said that the exports of pine nuts via air-corridor to China, and by ground to Uzbekistan and Pakistan, has surged.
“Over 50 percent of the pine nut yield has been exported,” said Nooruddin Azizi, acting minister of commerce and industry.
The international demand for Afghan dried fruit is high, according to sellers.
