AT-KABUL: At least five Islamic State (IS) militants have been killed in a drone strike in eastern Nangarhar province, said an official source.
Hazrat Husain Mashriqiwal, spokesman for police in Nangarhar, said that foreign troops carried out the drone strike in Melwae area of Nazian district the other day.
In a separate incident, a swarm of the Taliban militants attacked police checkpoints on Kabul-Kandahar highway in Farah province. According security forces, at least eight militants have been killed in the incident.
Fazel Muhammad Samadyar, Farah police chief, said that a commander of the Taliban militants was also among those killed.
He said that two Afghan soldiers were also killed in the fighting, while four others wounded.
The Taliban militants claimed to have captured two police checkpoints and taken away all personnel of the outposts. However, security officials have rejected the claims as baseless.
