AT-KABUL: At least 26 houses were completely damaged when a Sunday’s 6.8-magnitude earthquake that hit parts of the country.
“Twenty-one houses in Takhar, three in Badakhshan and two houses in Panjshir provinces were completely damaged in the earthquake,” Omar Mohammadi, spokesperson for the State Ministry for Disaster Management and Humanitarian Affairs told Afghanistan Times. “Fortunately, casualties have not been reported,” he said.
Bakhtiar Sorous, an official in Panjshir province, said that the houses damaged were in the Bazarak district.
The epicenter of the quake was Ishkashim district of Badakhshan province. It was 190 kilometer deep and was also felt in Pakistan and India.
A 6.3-magnitude quake in December left 12 people injured and 74 houses destroyed in Badakhshan, Takhar, Baghlan, Kunar, Parwan and Nangarhar provinces. In late-October a powerful earthquake, 7.7 in magnitude, struck Afghanistan. At least 118 people were killed and 538 others were wounded. The quake damaged 7,630 houses, 12 schools, 17 mosques and 20 government buildings.
