ED: Security deteriorates and responsibility goes to…

Skepticism abounds and many commentators are in deep bewilderment to know reason behind current fatality sustained to Afghan commoners and security forces. Our security institutions have been playing a major role in formulating our security strategy, but recent losses of security forces plus civilians have heightened doubts over incompetence in blueprinting security plans. The brave security forces have been fighting Taliban and other terrorists very efficiently. Beside their braveness, chalking out a comprehensive security diagram is major obligations to win against evil forces. For this to happen, we need a political consensus at first, and a minimum level of cooperation between our politicians who holds immense influence in their respective provinces. Having them in table of security would help to bring peace, and especially prevent the Afghan civilians from being killed or wounded. In such way, security landscape could be changed from fragile today to something better at the future. The most tragedy is that sometimes Afghan forces are behind civilians killing. A military ground and aerial operation and an ensuing clash killed at least 20 civilians in Paktia, while another military operation in eastern Nangarhar province has left six civilians dead. Similarly, hundreds of civilians killed and wounded in Afghan and foreign troops ground and air operations. However, thousands of them were killed and wounded by Taliban and other extremist groups. As a whole civilians caught between the hammer and the anvil.  Sadly, in the past some days over 100 security forces were also killed and over others wounded. Though killing of hundreds of Taliban militants were also confirmed but that is not our matter, we want them to be perished unless those militants who shun violence and reintegrate into civil society. This is absolutely a repression situation upon Afghan civilians and military. Both are being targeted by militants. The number of casualties surged to a highest level that apparently painting a scene that they wanted to expire, which none wants that. Everyday civilian and security forces fatality have been surface in media outlets. But why—why there is a failure in protecting civilians and why there is surge in brave security forces deaths. This is extremely important question that the National Unity Government has to answer. If there is incompetence, it exhibits NUG’s failure for hiring such ineptitude officials at the high-ranking security institutions.  The Afghan people have the right to know those responsible for their security. Ongoing trend, especially deterioration of security has become unacceptable. Time is ripe to avoid any sort of political gotcha and be responsible ahead of Afghan nation and work for their welfare and safety.
