Editorial: A deceive move

Pakistan for its ongoing duplicity in war on terror has been embraced regional and international isolation and passing through nervous and uncertain situations. Besides, Afghanistan and India, the United States has frequently accused Pakistan for harboring and sheltering the Afghan Taliban, the notorious Haqqani network and so many other local and international terrorist outfits, which use its soil for bleeding the Afghan and US-led NATO forces in Afghanistan. Since the announcement of new US strategy on Afghanistan and South Asia, which deals with Pakistan as an enemy and recognizing Afghanistan and India as its strategic partners in the region, Pakistan is being under the storm of pressure. In BRICS Summit declaration, China and Russia also gave clear signal to Islamabad that support to non-state actors and harboring national and international terrorists is not a viable long-term policy for Pakistan. On the other hand, Pakistan, instead of starting crackdown against terrorist outfits on its soil, remains stuck to its pro-terror policies and militant interference in Afghanistan. The recent trip of Pakistan’s army chief to Kabul, where he held meetings with civil and military leadership of our country was an achievement for Kabul which forced Chief of Army Staff of a nuclear country to beg some sort of safe passage. But, in fact, it was an act of deceiving that needs vigilance, as its duplicity and tactical moves are known to all. During the meetings with Afghan leadership, Bajwa reiterated offers of strengthening bilateral ties, Durand Line management, and training for the Afghan soldiers and police personnel in Pakistani institutions and emphasized on the need for the two countries to resolve differences by relying on bilateral mechanism and dialogue. Regarding training for the Afghan soldiers, Pakistani media have unilaterally announced major development which needs clarification by the government. However, the Afghan government and media have not yet disclosed and reported it. Keeping in view the history and ongoing policies of Pakistan, the Afghan leadership and people are now cautious with Pakistan. The Afghan ambassador to Islamabad in his messages on Twitter account was optimistic in Bajwa’s visit, but a number of parliamentarians, civil society activist and the NDS two former heads, Rahmatullah Nabil and Amrullah Saleh called on the government to be vigilant and they termed this visit as a deceive move. Amrullah Saleh said there is no need to be hopeful for a new era of trusty partnership without seeing and experimenting tangible results. Similarly, Nabil, said that Pakistan continues its military and political meddling in Afghanistan and trusting Pakistan for the second time would be unbearable mistake for Afghanistan. One cannot deny the sacred fact that states of the civilized world keep open their doors and prefer peaceful resolution to issues and disputes through negotiations. At the time, Afghanistan couldn’t afford any wrong decision. We need right decision on right time. Afghanistan’s defensive strategies and friendly policies on Pakistan have been badly failed while offensive policy is forcing the civil and military leadership of a nuclear state to request some space. The National Unity Government (NUG) has to take advantage of the new US strategy to bring Pakistan into the court of justice and do not let it to influence our bilateral ties with our time-tested friend—India. Keeping distinction between friends and foes is must for us. In addition to that, the NUG should focus on the upcoming Kabul-based international conference on Afghanistan to ensure its positive impacts for the civil and military institutions of the country and to add to peace and economic and political stability of the war-hit country.
