President Ghani’s Special Envoy Omer Daudzai has held details talks with leading Pakhtoon politicians during his over four days stay in Pakistan. Besides holding talks with Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Secretary Foreign Affairs Tehmina Janjua and others, Daudzai travelled to Charsada Wali Bagh where he met Awami National Party Chief Asfandyar Wali Khan. He also called on former Chief Minister and Quami Watan Party Chief Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao and held most important meeting with Jamaat Islami Pakistan Chief Senator Siraj-ul-Haq on the final day of his important trip. Daudzai who had served as Ambassador to Pakistan and is also much more familiar, as Chief of Peace Commission, focused all of his meetings and talks on efforts aimed at a negotiated resolution to long standing conflict as well as an end to over four decades turmoil on the soil of Afghanistan. Daudzai has visited Pakistan at the time when a number of leading countries and forces like US, Pakistan, China, Russia, Saudi Arabia, UAE, India and Iran are engaged in direct and indirect talks with each others to help resolve the Afghan conflict and find out durable and amicable ways for return of peace and tranquility in Afghanistan. Though almost Pakhtoon nationalists, progressive and democratic minded politicians of Pakistan are in favour of a negotiated resolution to Afghanistan conflict but convincing religious minded politicians is not any easy task. According to a statement issued after meeting with Jamaat Islami Chief Siraj Ul Haq, Muhammad Omar Daudzai seems satisfactory as “Siraj Ul Haq vowed to cooperate with the Afghan peace process.” No one can neglect Pakistan’s importance’s in ongoing peace efforts and it is the time for Afghanistan leadership to mobalise Pakistan’s politico-establishment, masses and public opinion makers at this crucial stage. Pakistan also needs to keep in mind the mistakes made by successive leadership regarding Afghanistan issue. Now when Taliban again are reluctant to talk with genuine and lawful representatives of Afghan nation, therefore, Pakistan needs to play a role. Almost three leading Pakhtoon politicians Asfandyar Wali Khan, Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao and Siraj Ul Haq are in favour of intra-Afghan dialogue, therefore, Islamabad needs to play a role. Unless return of complete harmony in Afghanistan, no one could ensure an end to headaches of Pakistan and the harmony is possible with a national reconciliation. On such grounds, it is the time for all regional and neighbouring countries in general and Pakistan in particular to help in success of Afghan peace efforts.
