Editorial: Great news

The terrorist group of the Islamic State (IS), which is popular with its Arabic acronym Daesh burst on the international scene in 2014, when the group captured large swathes of territory in Syria and Iraq. The group soon became notorious and deadly as loyalists to the Daesh started massive killing, abduction and beheading. The group formally declared the establishment of a ‘caliphate’, demanding people across the globe to swear allegiance to its leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghadid, and do migration to territory controlled by the group. Moreover, the terrorist group believed to be the world’s wealthiest one. The group is largely self-funding. But it was not late, when the group emerged in Afghanistan with the sole purpose to snake around the country. The radical group has struggled to establish a foothold in the country, and is largely seen by locals as a foreign force. However, so far they are failed to have control of any district across Afghanistan. The brave Afghan security forces are fighting all militant outfits including Daesh terrorist—already proved bitter taste for them. Continued pressure by the Afghan security forces have further eroded Daesh capabilities in Afghanistan, and it has to be keep going to stop Daesh from carving space in Afghanistan. Daesh terrorist group was formed by former TTP members who had little connection to IS in Syria and Iraq, and its fighters are comprised both of Taliban defectors and foreign fighters. Daesh is an evil force indeed. The group’s brutality is like open book to us all. Daesh militants carried out several attacks from hospital to mosque, from shrine to the peaceful demonstration, in which hundreds of people were killed and wounded. Moreover, militants loyal to Daesh killed passengers after dragging them from their vehicles. Surely, the group has no place in Afghanistan, and its ideology is absolutely against Islamic teachings and human principles. However, the Afghan and foreign security forces have been ready for a decisive battle against Daesh outfit, as recently they killed top leadership of the group. US military confirmed the killing of Abu Sayed, the IS head in Afghanistan during a raid in eastern Kunar province. US official termed this operation as another success in campaign to defeat ISIS-K in Afghanistan in 2017. This is great news for the Afghans, especially to those who have suffered a lot at the hands of Daesh militants. US assured to continue until IS annihilated. There is no safe haven for ISIS in Afghanistan. This is truly a heart-winning statement as the Afghan masses are willing for complete elimination of not only Daesh, but all form of terrorist groups. And US can do this in shortest time if there is will. In April the US dropped its largest non-nuclear bomb, known as the ‘mother of all bombs,’ on a tunnel complex allegedly used by the group. However, the drop of biggest bomb did not give birth to any tangible result as Daesh militants are still in Nangarhar province, threatening security situation. Anyway, the Afghan masses welcome the killing of IS leader, terming it as glad tiding toward reaching a durable peace and security in the country.
