Editorial: Hazardous condition

For almost three decades, the Afghan children despite bearing the brunt of causalities, they badly affected by conflict. Some reports indicated that Afghanistan children face one of the worst chances of survival of anywhere in the world. Parents need support to buy food for their children as they cannot depend on fall harvest to feed their families. Poverty, the ongoing wars have proved fatal for the Afghan children. They (children) after years of wars and severe poverty, combined with poor security, the country is considered to be among the most dangerous places for children to be born. Moreover, hundreds of thousands of Afghan children are expected to drop out of school this year, leaving them exposed to significant risk, an international aid group has warned. In its report on March 2017, Save the Children said that more than 400,000 children in Afghanistan, more than 1,100 a day, might not attend classes. This is very annoying. The future makers of Afghanistan have to be paid attention. Our future depends on them. Our today’s children are our tomorrow’s leaders. The government has to spare no efforts to protect tens of thousands of children, some as young as 5, from hazardous condition in the workplace, in violation of Afghanistan’s labor laws. The most irritating was when the National Worker’s Union of Afghanistan (NUWA) on Wednesday reported that tens of thousands of children doing hard labor are involved in “spying” and “drug smuggling” activities. There are some two million child laborers across the country and at least 11 percent of them, or about 200,000 children, have been engaged in spy activities and selling drugs, said Sawita Azimi, NUWA’s women chapter in-charge. Moreover, figures from the International Labor Organization (ILO) showed currently more than two million children in Afghanistan worked as laborers. Viewing this, it is very hard to be optimistic regarding children situation to be improved. A strong and immediate action is need of the hour. A large number of children work has street vendors, miners and at brick kilns, but the concerning point is that more than 200,000 children either busy selling drugs or indulged in spy activities. The related officials have to come up to the fore with a strategy to rapidly deal with the issue, and provide facility to the Afghan children to go to schools, instead to be hired by mafia and terrorist groups. It is possible with hard working. We have to safe our children by overcoming their all problems.
