The Milad-un-Nabi, (the birth day of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) was observed Sunday all over the world. It is celebrated in the third month of the Islamic calendar. Aimed at mass commemoration of this holy day, all Islamic countries declared public holidays. In Afghanistan we also celebrated this precious day widely.
President Ashraf Ghani, speaking in an event celebrating Milad-un-Nabi, said Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) wanted injustice and oppression to be removed from the society. “Welfare of the country is in peace, not in war.” He called on anti-government armed insurgents to join Afghan-led and Afghan owned peace and reconciliation process. He called on the militants to shun destructive activities.
The High Peace Council (HPC) also asked Taliban militants to renounce violence and join the peace process. The HPC in a statement said that despite many problems, it has been able to contact different groups of militants and invite them to peace.
Moreover, they urged armed militants to signal positively to the peace talks, and prevent the country from further troubles.
The call for peace, despite several times of rejection comes as recently Taliban posed new demands to peace talks. A Qatar-based Taliban spokesman, Sohail Shaheen termed the US-led foreign troops in Afghanistan as the “root cause” of war and its continuation.
“That is why there is need for America and its allies to come to the table for direct talks with the Islamic Emirate (the Taliban) for negotiating and end to the occupation,” Shaheen was quoted by several media.
Such statement raise may eyebrows, because Afghan government always asked the Taliban to come to the table of negotiations. They’re (Taliban) reconciliation directly facilitates the withdrawal of foreign forces from the country. There would no question, once Taliban stop killing of innocent people.
The Prophet (PBUH) said, “The most hated person in the sight of Allah is the most quarrelsome person,” (Bukhari).
It is time for the Taliban to stop being quarrelsome persons and come honestly to the table of talks. Such mere demands will cure nothing, rather complicate the peace process. We are all Muslims. There is no doubt. “Be kind to your children, and perfect their manners,” this the teachings of Islam. However, the children and civilians are bearing the brunt of causalities at high level. Taliban and other militant outfits must stop killing innocent human being. The Holy Quran says, “whoever kills a person unjustly, it is a though he has killed all mankind. And whoever saves a life, it is as though he saved all mankind.”
