KABUL: Happy International Day of the Girl to all girls around the world, especially to the Afghan girls across the country. This day also called the Day of the Girl, and the International Day of the Girl, and it declared as an international observances day by the United Nations. October 11, 2012, was the first Day of the Girl. The observation of this day will supports more opportunity for girls and increase awareness of gender inequality faced by girls worldwide. This inequality included areas such as right to education or access to education, nutrition, legal rights, medical care, and protection from discrimination, violence against women, and unfair child marriage. The celebration of the days also reflects the successful emergence of girls and young women as a distinct cohort in development policy, programming, campaigning and research. In this day, we celebrate the potential of every young girl to be a powerful voice in her community. Wishing bright future to all girls in this precious day, and surely today’s girls are leaders of tomorrow. The brave Afghan girls have been burnishing currently as they gain several achievements in different areas. They (Afghan girls) are shining in our society like starts and also they are ambassadors of peace and happiness. Recently we were witnessed that Afghan girl robotics team symbolized a new Afghanistan. They won a silver medal in the “courageous achievement” category at the first global robotics competition in Washington DC. The competition is considered to be the “Olympic’s” of robotics contests and was represented by over 160 countries. We, the Afghan masses are proud of our robotics team, and like them we proud to all girls who are making their ways with power of knowledge. Our country today is not Afghanistan of 2001—a state that had forgotten while the Taliban ruled. In that time, girls schools had shuttered, music was banned and computers remained largely unheard of. So Afghanistan today is very much different, where girls and women are at schools, universities, workplaces, in parliament, and we have Ministry of Women Affairs to help girls and women in areas they are facing problems. So as whole, from Presidential Palace to CEO office, and security agencies, women and girls have huge presence with dedication to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with their male collages in moving Afghanistan toward peace and stability. Today young girls are becoming midwives and saving other women’s lives, where college-educated students open libraries, where entrepreneurs are starting companies, and where a vibrant media has grown. Moreover, we have women serve as judges, district governor and also we have businesswomen. Taking this into account, none can deny that girls and women are making progress in the country, despite several obstacles. At the same time, the National Unity Government is committed to provide safe and sound opportunity for Afghan girls to chase their dreams by improving their situation. Hoping for a day where no girls and women complain of problems, and live a life free of terror.
