AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said that efforts are underway to determine timeframe and venue of peace talks with the Taliban.
This came at a time that leaders of the national unity government had said that peace parleys between the government and the Taliban will start in March.
Shekib Mustaghni, spokesman for the MoFA, told reports on Tuesday that that the government hasn’t decided over schedule and place for peace talks yet. “Efforts are underway to determine time and venue of the talks,” he said, adding that the government will share details of the talks with people of Afghanistan.
Hajji Sayed Dawoud, a political expert told Azadi Radio that some groups in Pakistani spy agencies were out to prevent from peace talks with the Taliban.
“Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff Raheel Sharif want Afghanistan’s peace talks to be started. However, some groups in the country are against peace talks, as they are still striving to storm Afghanistan,” he said.
It is worth mentioning that the Taliban has rejected any talks with the Afghan government and they have demanded complete withdrawal of foreign troops from Afghanistan as their main prerequisite for peace talks.
