AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: The second deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mohammad Mohaqiq, said that efforts are on to secure safe release of 31 kidnapped passengers through mediation of tribal elders.
He assured that all the 31 Hazara passengers are alive and efforts are on to secure their release through negotiations.
A group of unknown gunmen stopped two vehicles on Kabul-Kandahar highway in Shahjoi district of Zabul province and kidnapped 31 passengers of Hazara ethnicity. According to reports, the militants have taken the passengers to Khak-e-Afghan district of Zabul.
Mohaqiq told Azadi Radio that all the kidnapped passengers are ordinary people and have no links with the government.
Ata Mohammad Haqbin, Zabul provincial council chief, recently said that the kidnappers demand release of their imprisoned fighters.
Mohaqiq said: “The negotiators have said there are some women and children with Afghan government who should be released.”
He added that the women and children are innocent and will be handed over to their relatives, once found.
