AT-KABUL: Eight fighters, loyal to the Islamic State, also known as Daesh, were killed after the Afghan Air Forces conducted an air raid in Achin district of eastern Nangarhar province, an official said on Friday.
“Daesh fighters were busy devising evil designs, when the Afghan Air Force targeted them in their hideout,” Bakhtar News Agency quoted a security official who wished to remain anonymous.
The fighters were also involved in organizing of series of terrorist activities in the district, the official said.
The raid comes as defense ministry spokesman, Dawlat Waziri, says that Afghan Air Force takes part in 50 to 180 missions on daily basis to support the security forces in battlefield.
“Air Force utilizes the available resources, including combat and airlift equipment to support the Afghan ground forces,” he said.
He added the Air Force provides close-air supports and also logistics support to the security forces in their fight against insurgency across the country.
Afghan Air Force has so far received nine A-29 Super Tucano fixed wing light attack aircraft from the United States as well as surveillance unmanned aerial vehicle which are expected to further boost the capabilities of the Afghan forces.
It is worth mentioning that the government of India also putted his weight behind Afghan Air Forces by providing 3 Mi-25 gunship helicopters to help them in their fight against insurgency.
