AT-KABUL: At least eight Taliban insurgents were killed by their own explosives while preparing a vest for a suicide attack in eastern Nangarhar province, security officials said Monday.
In a statement, ministry of defense said the incident took place in Ghani Khel district “earlier this morning”.
“The explosives went off as the insurgents were busy preparing the suicide attack vest to target security forces in the province.”
The statement did not provide more details about would be suicide attack.
No insurgent groups commented regarding the report.
Earlier, a Taliban group commander was killed in an explosion triggered by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by the group’s own fighters in northern Kunduz province.
Taliban insurgents frequently use improvised explosive devices as the weapon of their choice to target the security forces but the ordinary civilians are the most victims of such attacks.
Blasts in different parts of Jalalabad City, capital of eastern Nangarhar province, left at least five dead including two security personnel and a child and 27 wounded on Friday.
