AT News Report-KABUL: Tens of people in Nangarhar province gathered in front of the election commission compound to protest existence of millions of fake voter stickers, insisting that elections will be meaningless without electronic ID cards.
The protesters in Nangarhar also staged their protest to oppose election-related intentional and suspicious activities, saying that no stickers have been pasted on Tazkiras of majority of people who will be deprived of voting.
A representative of Nangarhar in Wolesi Jirga Hazrat Ali says that millions of fake voter stickers have been printed and that the forthcoming elections will be devoid of credibility and legitimacy. MP Hazrat Ali urges the government of national unity to prepare the grounds for distribution of biometric identity cards.
Protesters demanded the government re-start voter registration as they said there are fake Tazkiras with stickers stamped on them in houses belonging to certain individuals.
Nangarhar provincial election commission chief, Zabihullah Wokri, said that a lack of stickers on ID cards is not only challenging people in Nangarhar, but it is also a prevailing challenge for other provinces too. He also raised doubts over prospects of transparent and fair elections.
