AT-KABUL: Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah said that electoral reforms to be finalized and implemented soon.
Afghanistan electoral reforms process, that was supposed to be a precondition for the next election, has been delayed for long time. The deferral of electoral reforms delayed both the Wolesi Jirga and district councils’ elections for over one year.
CEO Abdullah during a meeting with European Union Special Representative in Afghanistan Franz-Michael Skjold Mellbin at his office discussed National Unity Government preparation for electoral reforms and Brussels conference.
CEO assured that introducing electoral reforms is a top priority of the government and it would be finalized and implemented soon.
Pointing to government preparation for Brussels conference, he hoped the international community to have clear commitments for helping Afghanistan.
European Union Special Envoy in Afghanistan Franz-Michael Skjold Mellbin said that EU is well prepared for holding the Brussels conference.
He assured of the EU’s cooperation for introducing electoral reforms and holding elections in the country.
After establishment of US brokered National Unity Government, electoral reforms were one of the main precondition for both president and CEO, but bypassing two years from the age of government it failed to bring electoral reforms.
Due to delay of electoral reforms, government often criticized by civil societies and political parties, but still the electoral reforms did not implemented.
