KABUL: Some members of the chamber of commerce and industry, and traders’ community have staged protests and blocked the gate of the national standard authority in western Herat province over endemic corruption.
Herat traders accused the standard authority of committing frauds and extorting the commercial trucks that import construction materials. They called on the government to remove restrictions on the import of construction materials.
Yunis Qazizada, head of the provincial chamber of commerce and industry said the standard authority was taking 100 dollar taxes per each commercial vehicle that carries fuels and constructive materials.
Abdulwadud Faizada, head of the provincial trader community claimed that the standard authority committed frauds.
They said the traders were being forced to give bribes to the standard authority, otherwise the authority would not allow the trucks to import fuels and constructive materials.
But Khaibar Musmim, head of Herat standard authority denied the allegation, saying that based on government decision the disqualified and substandard materials were not allowed to be imported.
The standard authority earlier also enforced restriction on the import of construction materials.
