AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Five engineers working for a road construction company were kidnapped by Taliban militants in eastern Logar province, local officials said on Saturday.
The abduction took place late Friday in the Mohammad Agha district, said district governor Mohammad Nasir Amin.
“They were travelling in the area without contacting with security forces,” Amin said, naming the company as Blobal, but did not provide details whether it was a government company.
He added that the kidnapped were being kept in the Zarghon Shar and tribal elders were in contacts with Taliban insurgents to help in freeing them.
Sahib Gul, a tribal elder told to Pajhwok Afghan News that they had established contacts with Taliban, aiming to release the abducted engineers.
“We are talking about the issue with the Taliban, but our talks did not yield any results so far.”
He asked the Taliban to release the engineers as soon as possible and said the road construction in the area was very important for the people.
Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid said that they were unaware about the incident.
“We would investigate about it and would also clear whether the company is authorized by the Taliban to work in the area,” he said.
He added that Taliban did not create any problem for those who work in welfare projects.
Moreover, the construction process of the road began about two months ago. The district police chief and three workers of the Blobal Construction Company were injured and a policeman killed by a roadside bombing during the first survey of the road.
