AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: A peaceful rally in Jalalabad city of eastern Nangarhar province on Saturday demanded exemplary punishment for those behind killing of Farkhunda, a 27-year-old girl who was lynched by a mob in Kabul after she was accused for allegedly burning a copy of the Holy Qur’an.
The rally was attended by dozens of Nangarhar youth and activists who chanted slogans of ‘death to Farkhunda’s killers’ and ‘we want justice’.
The cruel act stirred condemnation and protests across the country.
A probe team was assigned by President Ghani to investigate the case concluded their investigation and found that the accusation was baseless and she was innocent.
The commission assigned by the president shared their findings with media on late Thursday. President Ghani and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) have promised that justice will be applied in this regard. At least 48 accused have been arrested so far and their cases referred to judiciary.
Security officials say they are looking for 10 other suspects who have escaped following the incident.
