KABUL: The business of expired medicine has worried the people who say that the government has not been able to avoid the selling of the drugs.
“My wife was sick. The drugstore gave me expired vitamin C tablets expired serum. I told them how can you sell these drugs? You are giving poison to your customers,” said Mohammad Hashim a Kabul resident.
In addition to Kabul’s residents the people in the rural also complained about the expired drugs business.
“Some drugstores sell expired medicines. We don’t know because the majority of the people are uneducated here. Patients’ health condition worsens when they consume these medicines,” said Ahmad Tahir, resident of Nangarhar province in the east.
The standard drugstores confirm the business of expired drugs in Afghanistan.
“Now days the business of expired drugs has been increased in Afghanistan, not only in the rural but in the famous drugstores because people don’t have enough information and they come from the rural, they don’t know anything about the date of the drugs. The investigators of the health ministry don’t investigate it seriously, they come drink tea and leave,” said Mohammad Mansour an in charges of the drugstore in the outskirt of the city.
Wahidullah Mayar, spokesman for the ministry of public health said that they make efforts to prevent expired drug business.
“A lot of works have been done so far but the problems still exist. We have a long border with Pakistan, the expired drugs are illegally trafficked from there but this issue has been decreased,” he said.
Although some drug companies are activated in the country, Afghanistan is one of the countries import the majority of drugs from outside.
