AT-KABUL: After the arrest of a top commander loyal to Junbish Milli Party over an alleged brawl, the first vice-president Gen. Abdul Rashid Dostum in exile has warned the government of national unity his ally Nizamuddin Qaisari’s unjustifiable incarceration will have consequences that could challenge the forthcoming elections.
Nizamuddin Qaisari, a close ally of General Dostum and the police chief of Faryab’s Qaisar district, was arrested by Special Forces on Monday night after a verbal confrontation.
Local government and military officials said that Commander Nizamuddin Qaisari, who was invited to attend a security meeting at the 1st Regiment of the 209 Shaheen Army Corps in Maimana city, humiliated and threatened to kill participants of the meeting.
Gen. Dostum urged the government leaders to release Commander Qaisari and return him to Faryab, warning of dire consequences if his demand goes unmet.
Reports also suggest that the verbal clash in the security meeting resulted into an armed clash.
A member of Faryab provincial council, Tahir Rahmani, said the clash resulted in killing of at least four security guards of commander Qaisari and four others were wounded.
Commander Qaisari’s arrest was followed by demonstrations in Faryab. On Tuesday, people took to the street to demand release of Qaisari.
