AT-KABUL: The Deputy Speaker of Meshrano Jirga, Muahmmad Alem Ezedyar, urged the concerned organizations to end the culture of impunity in fight against corruption.
Head of the Supreme Audit Office, Muhammad Sharif Sharifi received the title of honorary professor from Nanjing University of China here on Sunday. Talking to the ceremony, Ezedyar said that unless the culture of impunity is ended, the fight against rampant corruption will not yield in any positive result.
He called on the incumbent government deliver on its promises in fight against corruption. “The government of national unity, particularly President Ashraf Ghani and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abdullah Abdullah, should have a strong will to counter corruption” he said.
Ezyedyar added the only way to curtail corruption is to put end to the culture of impunity.
The European Union Special Envoy recently termed corruption as Afghanistan’s gravest challenge, and said the level of bribery, obstruction and nepotism is rampant.
President Ghani’s special representative on reforms and good governance, Ahmad Zia Masoud, said the government has a strong resolve to fight against corruption. He said that the government of national unity is committed to support anti-corruption organizations to curtail the infamous phenomenon.
