KABUL: A famous Afghan singer, Gul Zaman—who is considered as the backbone of the Pashto music has died at age 84, relatives confirmed.
Gul Zaman was active as a folk singer in Afghan music and was given the title of Music instructor by the Ministry of Information and Culture.
At least 900 songs made by Gul Zaman are recorded in the Radio Television of Afghanistan (RTA).
His death faced a widespread reaction by the Afghan leaders.
Former President Hamid Karzai termed Gul Zaman’s death as a great tragedy. “Unfortunately, I was informed that famous singer of the country instructor Gul Zaman was passed away,” Karzai said on Twitter.
