KABUL: Only a midwife is serving at the healthcare center in the Khan Chahar Bagh district of northern Faryab province.
The district is seeing an upward in insecurity in the last three decades in which there are limited areas for women to carry out their activities.
Fereshteh Yoldash is the only midwife in Khan Chahar Bagh district of the province who has been working for more than 10 years without a colleague.
Yoldash says that she works all day as the rush of more patients keeps her.
It was hard for her to work at the beginning but later people of the district told her that there was not another midwife for the patients.
“People face more problems during the night and they cannot go to other places for treatment and some women give birth to children at their homes,” she said, asking for more midwives to take care of patients during night.
Dr. Aziz, director of the district’s public health center acknowledged health problems people are facing, saying that one health center was not enough for the district.
He said that they face shortage of physicians, laboratories and ambulances.
“Most of the people in the district are poor and destitute and their income is very low. The harsh winter condition and the Corona virus put bad impacts on their lives.”
Aziz said that a single clinic and one doctor were unable to treat all the patients, asking for increase in the number of health centers and doctors to be increased.
Provincial public health director, Dr. Mohammad Naeem Musamim said the public health center asked for 19 personnel including two midwives, an ambulance and a laboratory, but they have not received any response from the ministry so far.
He did not say when the residents of the areas will be relieved from health problems.
