Kabul: Joe Biden, the president of the United States, condemned the attack on house of Nancy Pelosi, the speaker of the House of Representatives of the United States, and called it disgusting.
Paul Pelosi, the husband of US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, was hit by an assailant’s hammer at his home in San Francisco last evening.
According to US media, the attacker entered Pelosi’s house illegally and while holding a hammer, attacked Paul and hit him several times while shouting “where is Nancy?”
Nancy Pelosi’s spokesperson announced that “The attacker is in police custody and his motive for this action is not yet clear, but it seems that the attacker intended to attack Mrs. Pelosi, but she was in Washington at the time of this attack.”
The attack has fueled fears of political violence ahead of the Nov. 8 midterm elections.
According to Guardian’s report, the attack on Nancy Pelosi’s house has increased the concerns about the political violence ahead of the mid-term congressional elections in this country. The attack – apparently carried out by an individual who entered the home of the Democratic speaker of the House of Representatives in search of Pelosi herself – comes as warnings of violent rhetoric and threats against US lawmakers have increased.
According to this report, the congressional mid-term elections have heated up the atmosphere of conspiracy and intimidation in the midst of claims of extreme right-wing regarding manipulation of the elections and repetition of the 2020 presidential elections.
The Guardian wrote that the attack on Pelosi’s husband caused Republican lawmakers to condemn the use of threats and violence against political opponents. Adam Kinsager, a Republican member of the House Select Committee investigating the January 6 attack, is among those who have condemned the attacks. His family has received death threats for cooperating with this investigative committee.
Joe Biden, the US president said in an election rally before next month’s mid-term elections that there is a certain degree of hatred and malice in American politics.
Following this attack, the US government distributed a text to law enforcement across the country warning of the “grave threat” of domestic violent and extremism against candidates and campaign workers.
