KABUL: Dozens of women set a rally in the capital city of Kabul, where they called for the release of the missing women’s rights activist.
This comes as Parwana Ibrahimkhil, a women rights activist who went missing over the past month has been released on Friday.
However, Ibrahimkhil said she was arrested by the Islamic Emirate, the security officials said they have no clue about the fate of the missing women.
Earlier, UNHCR said that two journalists working on assignment with the organization have been arrested. Following the UNHCR’s statement, the Islamic Emirate announced on Saturday that the two journalists and their Afghan colleagues have been set freed.
The protestors called for the release of the rest of the women who went missing over the last month.
“We held a demonstration in reaction to all the problems created by the Taliban group for the people of Afghanistan,” said Monisa, a protestor.
The Islamic Emirate has repeatedly promised to hunt down the issue of the missing women but the detail of the missing women’s fate is yet to be publicized.
“We should ask our own sources and then, based on that, will give you information,” said Bilal Karimi, deputy spokesman for the Islamic Emirate.
Several humanitarian organization including the UN, Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International voiced concerns over the fate of the missing Afghan female rights activists.
